The Sutraq Care Guide
Handle with Love: Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is more than just fabric; it is a living piece of art. Woven by hand using natural fibers, these sarees carry the soul of the weaver. To ensure your Sutraq pieces last for generations, they require a little extra TLC (Tender Loving Care).
✨ The Golden Rules of Maintenance
1. The First Wash
To preserve the vibrancy of the natural dyes and "lock in" the colors, we strongly recommend Dry Clean Only for the first wash. This is especially vital for silks, Zari-heavy weaves, and dark-colored cottons.
2. Gentle Cleansing
If the fabric is suitable for home care, always use a mild liquid detergent in cold water.
-
Pro Tip: Never wring, twist, or scrub your saree, as this can displace the delicate hand-woven fibers.
3. The Shade Rule
Harsh sunlight is the enemy of natural dyes. Always dry your sarees in a breezy, shaded area and hang them inside out to prevent the colors from fading.
4. Precise Ironing
Use a medium-heat setting. For silk sarees or those with intricate Zari work, always place a thin cotton cloth over the saree before ironing to act as a protective barrier.
5. Breathable Storage
Your sarees need to breathe. Store them in a cool, dry place inside breathable cotton muslin bags.
-
Note: Avoid plastic covers, as they can trap moisture and cause the fibers to weaken or discolor over time.
6. The "Refold" Secret
To prevent the fabric from tearing or becoming brittle along the creases, take your sarees out every 3 to 4 months. Unfold them, let them breathe for a few minutes, and refold them differently to shift the pressure points.
"Proper care ensures that the elegance of a handloom only grows with time."
